Entering the Liminal.
A liminal space. A location between two states of being, or dimensions. Frozen. Disconcerting. Hiraeth.
Inklings.
Hiraeth began as a simple idea. My work has always teetered between worlds- that of the living, and that of the dead.
Spirits.
Presence.. Within an absence.
The deep discomfort that many experience when confronted with the impermanence of life and the truth that we are but a blip on the universal radar.
This truth unearths further into reality when we experience what is known to be a liminal space in contemporary culture. A liminal space is a location sitting between two states of being- whether it be an abandoned mall food court or a being with seemingly no shadow- the feeling of liminality creates the discomfort of the uncanny valley that cannot be shaken immediately.
It lingers.
Hiraeth is the feeling of longing for a home you’ve never known- liminal in its very existence.
Join me on the journey into the liminal, into the search for that true Home.
Welcome to Hiraeth.
